Panasonic has unveiled its latest digital camera, the LUMIX DMC-ZR3 that goes one up one a standard consumer level point-and-shoot as this fully-featured device comes with AVCHD Lite High Definition (HD) video recording capabilities to help you capture your favorite memories in full detail, making sure the passage of time does not allow such data to deteriorate unlike those old analog tapes that we used to grapple with. Apart from that, the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZR3 also boasts a 25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens and a powerful 8x optical zoom that empowers you with a wide range of shooting options, all crammed into an incredibly slim body which has no qualms about fitting into a small purse or shirt pocket. Apart from that, this latest addition to the ZR Series sees the introduction of Intelligent Zoom that can extend the LUMIX ZR3′s zoom to an impressive 10x.

It is interesting to note that the aforementioned 8x optical zoom on the LUMIX DMC-ZR3 is not found on many conventional point-and-shoot cameras, and even then how many of those measure all of 1″ thin? With Intelligent Resolution built in, this component of Intelligent Auto mode will help maintain optimal picture quality by capturing higher quality signal processing, relying on the detection of three areas – outlines, detailed texture areas and soft gradation to examine them by individual pixels so that any degradation created during the digital zoom process or in high-sensitivity shooting can be enhanced for a superior end result.

The reliance on the AVCHD Lite HD video format also helps double the recording time in HD quality when compared to the conventional Motion JPEG format, while Dolby Digital Stereo Creator helps you preserve high-quality audio for posterity. Other features include a super-fast AF (Auto Focus) speed of 0.26 second (wide-end)/0.31 second (tele-end), a 2.7″ Intelligent LCD display, a high-speed start-up of just 1.1 second, an SD/SDHC Memory Card slot and the ability to play nice with next-generation SDXC Memory Cards as well. No word on pricing, but we do know that the Panasonic LUMIX ZR3 will come in silver, black, red and blue colors.
