iPad Review: Should You Buy One?

iPad Review: Should You Buy One?
With the Apple iPad due for release in less than 24 hours, what better time is there to write a quick review of the product and discuss whether you should, or shouldn’t, buy one? Over the past few months there has been a lot of hype surrounding Apple’s latest development; but is it really worth the money? A lot of people are predicting that it will revolutionise the market, just like Apple’s iPhone device did with the mobile phone market – is this really possible though? Let’s take a look at what you get for your money.
iPad Review: Should You Buy One?
Screen: The screen size on the Apple iPad is huge, a whopping 9.7 inches in size. This makes the device perfect for watching those high quality videos and viewing the web. A lot of people are saying that this device just a ‘big iPod Touch’ and in some ways they are correct. But you shouldn’t underestimate the difference that a larger screen makes to a device. With its 9.7 inch screen, viewing the web and watching videos is a pleasure on the iPad and the screen quality is excellent. Apple also claims that the screen will not produce any glare in situations that have a lot of lighting, for example when using the device in direct sunlight. If Apple can pull this off effectively then it will be a useful feature for the device.

Memory: There are three different models of the iPad hitting the market, each with a different amount of memory. There will be a 16GB, 32GB and a 64GB model released into stores, in the US, from Saturday 3rd April. All of these models should have a sufficient amount of memory for all the things you need; such as holding MP3 files and storing any apps you have downloaded. And if you particularly enjoy keeping a substantial amount of movies or TV shows with you, on your device, then there is always the possible option of purchasing the next version, with a larger capacity of space, easily in stores. This will definitely be a possibility to consider, for it is hard not to enjoy watching your favourite movies on the iPad, because of its high-quality screen – as previously enthused.

Connectivity: There will also be two different versions of the iPad that will feature different connectivity. The first is released on 3rd April 2012 in the US, and will be the Wi-Fi enabled version of the iPad. This will basically be a large iPod touch, and you will only be able to access the internet via a Wi-Fi connection. This model of the iPad will probably be perfect for a lot of people as not everyone will need access to the internet on the go. However, if you do require this, there will be a version of the iPad being released in a few more weeks that will feature 3G connectivity. This model will use AT&T’s network to connect to the internet and will allow you to access the internet pretty much anywhere you need to be connected (much like the iPhone). The 3G version of the iPad will be a little more expensive than the Wi-Fi version; but for people that need this aspect of the device, it isn’t a lot to pay. The only problem with the 3G version is that to achieve a 3G connection you must sign up to a contract with AT&T. This is available from around $20 per month, but when you have already paid a large amount for the device, it would have been nice to have the 3G connectivity feature included.

Battery Life: If you own an Apple iPhone then you will probably have noticed that one of the few things that ‘let it down’ per se is the fact that the battery life length of the device is absolutely abysmal. With the iPad; Apple claims that it will have up to 10 hours battery life of constant use and a staggering 30 days of standby battery life. You might think that these are just lies straight from Apple, given to encourage people to purchase an iPad, but from the professional reviews that are out there, it seems that these are anything but false claims. In fact according to a lot of reviewers, the battery life actually exceeds Apple’s claims of 10 hours; and has been ‘staying alive’ for much longer.

eBook’s: One of the main reasons that Apple has developed this product is in order to enter the eReader market. Currently, this market is dominated by Amazon with their Kindle device. This holds 90% of this huge market at the moment. With the iPad, Apple is hoping to steal a great deal of this away from Amazon, by offering what they hope to be a better alternative to the Kindle device. However, the debate really comes down to the question, is it really better than the Kindle? Well, with its 9.7 inch screen the iPad will make reading eBooks much easier on the eyes, than the Kindle 2 with a mere 6 inch; and the fact that the iPad has a full colour screen when the Kindle has only black and white, means that it will be much better for displaying images in eBooks. Also, the iPad should be much easier to use than the Amazon Kindle with its touch sensitive screen; making turning pages of the eBook a much more natural and comfortable experience than just pressing a button.
So there it is- a quick review of the iPad. And yes, we still haven’t answered the question that we set out to answer; should you really buy an iPad? Is it actually worth the hype? Well, obviously we can’t make that decision for you; however, we do believe that if you are looking for a first-rate eReader then the iPad should definitely be considered in your decision, when making a choice in purchasing the right accessory for you personally. Also, there are loads of accessories available and sold separately for the iPad, which include iPad Keyboard Dock, iPad Cases/iPad Covers, iPad Camera Connection Kit, iPad Dock, Apple Wireless Keyboard, Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic and Many More!. Although the Amazon Kindle should not be forgotten or ignored, as both the Kindle and iPad, make fantastic eReaders and personal devices.
Still, with the iPad due for release in a mere 24 hours, you need to make your decision quickly if you are hoping to get your hands on one of them on the launch date as we’re sure queues should be expected due to high expectations and promise.
