EKING S700 e-notepad

Shenzhen Guangxuntong communications technology, has a Chinese company now the world’s first E-S700 notebook launched called subsistence farming. The 7-inch set is for those who developed outside their normal office environment and the need to take notes work. It has a 7-inch color screen with both resistive touch input and an electromagnetic stylus integrated 3G, fingerprint scanner, 3-megapixel auto focus camera and a music player. The subsistence economy S700 will be available before the end of the year, unfortunately there is still no word on pricing details.
EKING S700 e-notepad Picture
The kids at Eking don't always take due credit for their handiwork (they're usually busy manufacturing devices that get badged by companies like Viliv) but this time around they seem pretty proud of their S700 E-notepad. "A notepad," the company states in its PR, "means 'a memorandum' in English. With the prefix E, e-notepad means electron memorandum, abbreviated as electron book.
It's concise and easy to understand and can be accepted by consumers." You get all that? It sports a color 7-inch display with both resistive touch input and an electromagnetic stylus (just like your old Wacom tablet), integrated 3G, fingerprint scanner, three megapixel camera, and a plastic case that looks similar to the one that came with our old Day Runner knock-off. And it's apparently a color display, because "multi-purpose colored electronic notepads will certainly replace the black and white E-books of simple features. It's a trend the same as that of the color TV sets replacing the black and white ones." Took the words right out of our mouth, Shenzhen PR guy! Not entirely sure on a price or release date for this one, but you'll know as soon as we do. Promise.

Verizon HTC 4G Android Thunderbolt Smartphone
Taking advantage of Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network and the intuitiveness of the HTC Sense user experience, HTC ThunderBolt is one of the first smartphones to integrate Skype mobile™ with video calling. Rather than relying on a standalone application, a Skype mobile with video call can be made as easily as a standard voice call – with features like presence icons that indicate the availability status of friends built into the standard contacts list. A front-facing camera enables simple video calling, and the 4.3-inch display brings friends and family into clear focus.

HTC ThunderBolt features exceptional speed and power with the newest generation of the blazing-fast 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Verizon Wireless customers will also enjoy the premium HTC Sense user experience, running on the Android 2.2 platform. Creating and consuming mobile multimedia content is made possible with a stunning 4.3-inch WVGA display, Dolby surround sound, 8-megapixel camera and HD video recording. With wireless DLNA capability, the HTC ThunderBolt can easily stream and share content directly with compatible home theater components, including HDTVs and stereo receivers that feature built-in DLNA support.

“We are proud to not only be bringing one of the first 4G LTE Android smartphones to the Verizon Wireless network, but to offer people the unprecedented speed and ease of use that the HTC ThunderBolt provides to them,” said Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC Americas. “What makes 4G so compelling is not just technology, but what the technology allows people to do. With HTC ThunderBolt and the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, 4G is brought to life as people stay connected with friends, family and content faster than ever before possible.”

“Our 4G LTE network and the HTC Sense user experience combine to enable our customers to connect with friends, family and information on a whole new level,” said Marni Walden, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless. “Customers will see the difference of 4G speeds when accessing content via the Web, Android applications or other Verizon Wireless applications.”
The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, launched in December 2010, is the fastest, most advanced 4G network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon Wireless’ 3G network. Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network currently reaches one-third of all Americans, with plans to expand the network to the company’s entire 3G coverage area over the next three years.

The HTC ThunderBolt will be on display at CES in Verizon Wireless’ booth (#35216 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center). oogle’s Android

Google’s Android Coming this Summer with Ice Cream Flavor
Anonymous sources reported that Google is planning to launch its new Android version for mobile phones which is named as Android 2.4 Ice Cream. It is expected to launch either in this June / July 2011 or somewhere around Google’s IO conference at the beginning of May 2011.
google ice cream android 2.4
Its bit confusing that Google has assigned this version as Android 2.4 as release of Honeycomb 3.0 version is about to due in the start of this year, so it might be possible that Google probably do some changes in the version like Honeycomb will be released as 2.4 but these are all hypothesis we just have to wait for the launch of coming Android versions and enjoy their flavors.

It is confirmed that Android Ice Cream will be released after Honeycomb as it has become an ethical behavior of Google that it releases its android version in alphabetical orders i.e. Donut (D), Eclair (E), Froyo (F), Gingerbread (G) and Honeycomb (H) with the next iteration in the list of releases Ice Cream (I).

Apple Unlimited iTunes

Apple Bringing Unlimited iTunes Download
According to a leading news channel, Apple is trying to make a deal with record companies that would allow it to offer unlimited downloads for iTunes music purchases, citing three people with knowledge of the company’s plans. It’s only logical: if you buy an iPhone application in the iTunes App Store, and by chance erase it, or buy a new iPhone, you can download it again. But currently you cannot do that with the music you buy on iTunes, and Apple is approaching to change that.

Apple is now negotiating with Vivendi’s Universal Music, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music and EMI. If the negotiations became successful, the deal would allow iTunes users to download music they’ve purchased to several devices: iPhone, iPod and iPad.

Apple iPad 2 Galaxy Tab 10.1

Apple iPad 2 Forces Samsung to Review Galaxy Tab 10.1
The Apple iPad 2 is out now and the whole world is after it. Without any doubt, Apple has made the iPad 2 more overwhelming and spectacular than the original iPad, so much so that the diverse competitors out in the market are a long way behind the iPad 2 as they still haven’t caught up with the technology in the first iPad, said by Steve Jobs at the iPad 2 launch event. As a matter of fact, rumors are spreading that Samsung is planning to reproduce the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in order to compete with Apple iPad2.

The report claims that a Samsung corporation executive has exposed that the company wants to improve the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in order to compete directly with the Apple iPad 2.

Lee Don-joo, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile division, said that Apple has presented new challenges for the South Korean company with a thinner mobile gadget that is priced the same as its predecessor.

“We will have to improve the parts that are inadequate,” Lee told Yonhap News Agency. “Apple made it very thin.”

Though, it is not only the technical issues that concerned Samsung. The best thing that Apple did with the iPad 2 prices was that it retained those of the preceding iPad, meaning that Apple did not raise the price for the Apple iPad 2. So Samsung obviously needs a competitive pricing model in order to compete with Apple Corporation.

The 7-inch Galaxy Tab was priced at nearly US$900 without a two-year contract from mobile operators, while the price of the iPad 2 starts at $499, with the most expensive model costing $829. Samsung did not announce the pricing details for the 10.1-inch tablet.

“The 10-inch (tablet) was to be priced higher than the 7-inch (tablet) but we will have to think that over,” Lee added.

Steve Jobs made it clear in his keynote at the iPad 2 launch event, that 2011 will not be the year of the imitators. On the other hand, I believe that the iPad competitors in the market ought to move on from actually copying, and building to become just like the iPad, relatively they should do something distinctive with their own tablets, they should not let their imagination die, Apple hasn’t, nor with their tablets, Macs, iPhones, iPods and many more others, the manufacturers need to see further than that, may be then we can see some real iPad 2 competitors in the market.

iPad Dock

Apple has launched a new iPad Dock for their next generation tablet, iPad 2 called The iPad 2 Dock! This dock is part of Apple’s new range of accessories for the second generation iPad, which include the new HDMI adapter, and also their new iPad 2 Smart Covers.

The iPad 2 Dock is made to work with the new slimmer design of the iPad 2 (33% slimmer than the original iPad). It supports other iPad 2 accessories including the iPad Camera Connection kit and the new Apple Digital AV Adapter.

The design is neat and sleek-looking! This dock serves as a personal hub for all you stuff! It gives you easy access to all the ports for syncing or charging, and the audio line out port for connecting to powered speakers via an optional audio cable. Pricing information is not available as of now, but of course, we’ll keep you posted as soon as we have that information!

Apple iPad 2 In UK

We’ve been covering pints to get the Apple iPad 2 from, in the US, subsequent the March 11 shipping date of iPad 2. Talking about the United Kingdom, it is absolutely one of the possible markets of Apple, and surely enough PCWorld United Kingdom has scheduled the Apple iPad 2 for March 25 release. We also reported the Apple had retained prices of the original iPad, and that is also shown in the image above. PCWorld now lists the original iPad only for £329 for the 16 GB Wi-Fi model.

Currently, there are four points from where the new iPad can be bought in the United States. Best Buy, Sams Club, Walmart and Verizon are all part of that list. It is good to see that chaps in the UK now have yet another point, other than the Apple Retail Stores in United Kingdom to line up at, for the Apple iPad 2.

Windows Vista SP2

Windows Vista SP2: What to Expect
I've gotten a number of emails about Microsoft's next major update to Windows Vista with SP2. Although I published a short description of this service pack on the SuperSite for Windows before Microsoft announced SP2 last October, I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't provided any substantial updates since then--which is particularly odd because I've been using various versions of SP2 with Vista on a Lenovo ThinkPad SL500 since last fall. So let's take a look.

First, Microsoft will almost certainly ship SP2 to the public in April. This follows three major prerelease milestones, including Beta 1 in late October 2008, Beta 2 in December 2008, and, most recently, RC1 late last week. I've installed each of these releases, in turn, on that Lenovo laptop, on which I also test the Internet Explorer 8.0 RC build.

Before getting into the functional changes in Vista SP2, I should point out that this release will be a shared, common update between Windows Server 2008 and Vista. This is possible because Microsoft has now aligned its client and server OS releases--so when Server 2008 shipped last year, it did so with the code for SP1 included. Moving forward, customers will have a simpler task of testing and deploying service packs. (This release also creates the strange situation in which SP2 is the second service pack for Vista, but the first for Server 2008. But I'll try not to dwell on that.)

From a functional standpoint, SP2 is nothing like Vista SP1. That is, it doesn't include major functional, reliability, or performance improvements. Instead, SP2 is largely a traditional service pack, aggregating all of the hotfixes and other updates that Microsoft has released since SP1. (And yes, as a result SP1 is a prerequisite for installing SP2.) Thus, Server 2008 SP2 and Vista SP2 systems should be almost completely compatible with software and drivers written for Server 2008, Vista, and Vista SP1.

That said, SP2 does include some minor functional updates. After all, time marches on, and Microsoft needs to address emerging trends when possible. Functional updates in SP2 include:

Windows Search 4.0. Available now as a separate update for Vista, Windows Search 4.0 offers better performance, enhanced Group Policy support, and the ability to index encrypted files.
Bluetooth 2.1 support. Also available now as a separate update called the Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless, this update supports the latest version of the Bluetooth wireless standard.

Blu-ray data disc writing. With SP2, you can natively write to Blu-ray data discs from the Vista shell. (This functionality doesn't include creating Blu-ray movies.)

exFAT file system support improvements. Microsoft developed the Extended FAT, or exFAT, file system as a more modern file system for flash devices such as USB storage. (That is, it overcomes the 4GB file size limit from FAT/FAT32 and can handle more than 1,000 files in a single folder.) Microsoft added exFAT support to Vista with SP1, but with SP2 that support is extended to include Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) timestamps, facilitating file synchronization across time zones.

Wi-Fi improvements. SP2 utilizes Windows Connect Now (WCN) technologies to simplify Wi-Fi configurations (this functionality is also available now as part of the Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless). Wi-Fi connection performance is also improved when resuming from sleep mode.

VIA 64-bit support. With SP2, Vista now supports 64-bit VIA microprocessors.
Power management improvements. The default power management policies are approximately 10 percent more efficient than before, according to Microsoft.

In addition to the changes noted above, some SP2 changes are Server 2008-specific. For example, whereas the original shipping version of Server 2008 included a prerelease version of the Hyper-V virtualization solution, the final shipping version of Hyper-V 1.0 is included in SP2. (Customers could previously download this version for free.) And Hyper-V brings with it one free guest OS installation with Server 2008 Standard Edition, four free licenses with Server 2008 Enterprise Edition, and an unlimited number of free licenses with Server 2008 Datacenter Edition. SP2 also cleans up some Terminal Server license key issues.

Finally, SP2 includes a service pack clean-up tool (compcln.exe) that permanently deletes older versions of the RTM- and SP1-based files that SP2 replaces. Employing this tool can save disk space, of course, but it can also be used to reduce the size of future installation images.

If you're interested in testing SP2 and aren't on the beta list, Microsoft will likely make the RC1 version available via MSDN and TechNet soon. (The December Beta 2 release is currently available.)

I have to saw that the Apollo is a very attractive portable hard disk, when I first opened it I was very impressed not only by it’s looks but by how small it is. The Imation Apollo seems very well made, it feels sturdy and rugged, and it’s lightweight.

Here is the Apollo compared to a couple other 2.5" enclosures I have on hand, it’s easily the smallest:

On one end of course you’ll find a USB connection, the mini style of connector, on the top you’ll also find a small LED indicator that glows blue when powered and blinks to indicate activity.

Of course I was curious and had to pull it apart, something I would highly advise against, besides being very difficult to get apart it’ll most likely void any warranty on the product. Opening it up I found a Samsung HM500LI 500GB, 5400RPM 2.5" hard drive.

Before I get into any testing, Imation did include some backup software already on the drive, you just have to install it. It’s called Arcosoft Total Media Backup, and personally it’s not something I would like to use as my backup software..
Total Media Backup just blanket copies or backs up everything with the parameters you set, you can’t go in and specify certain folders of files to be backed up. You can select the formats, like MPG, DOC, AVI and everything else, but it just searches you hard drive for these file formats and backs them up. You can select full backup or incremental, where it only backs up new files added since the last backup.
Checking the Arcsoft website I found that the version included with the Apollo is a scaled down version, the full version includes burning capabilities as well and a few other features.
Don’t get me wrong here though, Arcosft Total Media Backup could be useful to someone, just not me personally. It’s a great, easy to use backup software solution for those that might not have much experience with this type of thing, in the right hands it could prove very useful and worthwhile.

A few days ago I reviewed the Verbatim 160gb 2.5" portable hard drive, so I thought it would make a good comparison for the Apollo, and compare to another I’ve got on hand and the OCZ Rally2 Turbo Flash Drive.
I used SiSoft Sandra 2009 Removable Storage Benchmark for testing and comparison, higher scores are better.

From all of my time reviewing I’ve learned that it seems the larger things get the slower they are until technology catches up with them, and obviously this is very true here. The Speeds aren’t the greatest, but it’s not really a good comparison either, it would work much better if I had other 500gb HDDs to compare to, but it gives us a general idea anyway.
Personally I’ll take the capacity over the speed any day, the Verbatim was only 160GB, while the Imation Apollo is 500GB, so yeah I’ll take the slower 500gb over the faster 160gb….
The Cheapest I found the 500gb Apollo online for was $172 plus shipping and the cheapest I found the Verbatim online for was $98 plus shipping.
Which, without shipping averages out to 61 cents per gigabyte, while the Apollo averages out to be 34 cents per gig, the Apollo is a much better deal.

Conclusion:
The Imation Apollo is an excellent choice overall for you portable storage and backup needs.
The Apollo might not be the fastest, but it is the cheapest on average per gigabyte from what I found online, and as I said I’ll take the larger capacity over the speed anytime.
The Apollo looks great, it’s small and lightweight making it very portable and it seems well made.
The only suggestion I could make is that Imation should include a carrying case with it to protect the Apollo and carry the USB cable around with you easier.
Pros:
-Small and lightweight
-Large capacity
-Seems well made
-Low cost per gigabyte
Cons:
-Not the fastest
-Included software is basic
